After breakfast, we head to the ancient Zapotec capital known as Monte Albán. 9 km from the city of Oaxaca, in Monte Albán, the Great Plaza awaits you, with its ceremonial buildings, among which the following stand out: the Ball Game, Building S or Monte Albán Palace; the South Platform; the Observatory or Building J, unique in its kind in Mesoamerica; the imposing Platform of the Dancers, which was originally adorned with more than three hundred stelae. On this tour of the most important Archaeological Zone in the state of Oaxaca, we will learn about the history of the people who populated this majestic urban center, which exercised religious, political and economic control over the Zapotec people. Don't forget to take the best photographs from the top of its pyramids and visit the museum where you will find the original pieces that have been rescued from this place. Without a doubt, we will take away an unforgettable experience from Monte Albán, in Oaxaca.
Later we will visit Mitla, a Magical Town in Oaxaca, known for its archaeological zone, which is the second most important ceremonial center in the state of Oaxaca, after Monte Albán, and is characterized by its harmonious buildings, proportional patios and walls decorated with polished stone mosaic patterns.
The Tule tree, an ahuehuete found in Santa María del Tule, is one of the oldest trees in the world, as it is more than 2,000 years old. With a monumental diameter of 40 m, it is the widest of its species, and is perhaps the largest living being in the world.
Back in Oaxaca we will have a tour of the city's historic center.
We begin our tour of the city of Oaxaca at the temple and former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, a monumental architectural complex that is a beautiful example of the Baroque in Mexico of the Dominican Order. The majestic former convent of Santo Domingo combines beauty and magnitude, it is even larger and more lavish than the Cathedral of Oaxaca, also a Dominican work. Added to its grandeur is the extraordinary beauty of its altarpieces and decorations. The façade of its temple is a large altarpiece in stone, framed by two tall towers, unusual in Oaxaca, since in this seismic zone lower towers were usually built. The magnificence of the temple can be admired in the choir, in the main nave, in its chapels and in the High Altar.
We enter the former convent to visit the Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca, where Mixtec and Zapotec archaeology and the treasure from tomb No. 7 of Monte Albán are exhibited.
We continue to discover the magic of Oaxaca on foot along one of the main streets of the city of Oaxaca. A cobblestone street with green stone pavement that opens the way to the Tourist Walkway, from Santo Domingo de Guzmán to the central part of the city. Along the way, various museums, galleries, craft shops and restaurants are located. In the center we can enjoy a mix of sounds from the music band and marimba.
In the historic center of Oaxaca we will see the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption of the city of Oaxaca, which is the seat of the Archdiocese of Antequera.
